Our executive team is responsible for strategic investments in talents and technologies, innovations and intellectual property, financial performance, and risk management at all stages of project development from prototype conception to industrial production.

JAMIE WALTERS,  CEO and CO-FOUNDER

Jamie is the CEO and co-founder of Calyxia. 

He has over 10 years of experience in the development and application of microcapsule technologies for disruptive formulated materials. He holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cambridge, where he went on to become a guest lecturer, in addition to inventing the core particle technology of the BiognostIX© rapid diagnostic sensor and co-founding the public engagement platform, CUSPE. Jamie is also the author of more than 20 patents and publications. 


Jamie believes that every formulation goal is achievable if you have a unified team with the bravery to be creative, the patience to plan meticulously and the work ethic and ambition to deliver the solution.

FRANCO MANFRE, COO

Scientific Founders

Franco joined Calyxia as the Chief Operating Officer in 2016. 


He has over 25 years of executive management experience within fine chemicals, cosmetics and the life sciences. He has held the positions of Head of New Technologies in Medicinal Chemistry at Rhône-Poulenc Rorer (Sanofi), Advanced Research Chemistry Director and Process Development Director at L’Oreal, Global R&D Director at Rhodia and Managing Director at Minasolve. Franco is also the author of more than 50 patents and publications. He holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the Université de Strasbourg and an Executive Master in “Strategy and Performance Management” from Université Paris Dauphine. 

Audacity, innovation, and high performance for sustainability are key values which Franco both inspires and supports.

DAMIEN DEMOULIN, CTO and CO-FOUNDER

Damien is the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of Calyxia. 


He has over 9 years of experience inventing new emulsification processes to produce complex colloids for formulated materials. He holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry from the École Supérieure de Chimie Industrielles de Paris (ESPCI), where he went on to coordinate industrial partnerships in the Laboratoire Colloïdes et Matériaux Divisés. Damien is also the author of more than 15 patents and publications. 


Damien is passionate about driving the transformation of scientific innovations to problem solving products.

Our Scientific Founders

Professor Jérôme Bibette from ESPCI Paris and Professor David Weitz from Harvard University fuel Calyxia with technologies and strategic insight developed over 20 years of collaborative research and 15 years of entrepreneurial successes.

PROF. JEROME BIBETTE, SCIENTIFIC FOUNDER

Jérôme is the Professor of Soft Matter Physics at École Supérieure de Chimie Industrielles de Paris (ESPCI) and the co-director of the Michelin Advanced Research Initiative at ESPCI. 

Jérôme received his PhD in Physical Chemistry from the University of Bordeaux in 1990, and went on to become a Professor at the University, where his work in the areas of emulsions, colloid chemistry, complex fluids and soft condensed matter physics led to the award of the CNRS Silver Medal. He then became a Professor at ESPCI in 2001. Jérôme is also a co-founder of Ademtech, Raindance Technologies, Capsum, HiFi-Bio, BioMillenia and MilliDrop Instruments.

PROF. DAVID WEITZ, SCIENTIFIC FOUNDER

David is the Mallinckrodt Professor of Physics & Applied Physics at Harvard University, where he is also the director of the Harvard Materials Research Science and Engineering Center, and the co-director of the BASF Advanced Research Initiative at Harvard. 


David received his PhD from Harvard University in 1978 before joining Exxon Research and Engineering Company, where he worked for nearly 18 years. He then became a professor of physics at the University of Pennsylvania in 1995, followed by Harvard in 1999.  David is also a co-founder of Raindance Technologies, GnuBio, Capsum, HiFiBio, BioMillenia, 1Cell-Bio, Spherebio, NextGen Forensic Sciences, TCRx and Dragon Drop Inn.  In addition, he is a celebrated member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in the United States.

Our Board

Led by Chairman Fred Dom, our board is responsible for ensuring strong, transparent and progressive governance, and to driving our development strategy to promote a culture of long-term value creation. 

FRED DOM

Fred is the Chair of the Calyxia Board. 

He is a Co-Founder of HiFiBiO, where he now serves as the Chief Financial Officer. He has co-founded multiple technologies companies based in the Netherlands, USA and France.

 

He has numerous board seats which including the Chair of an Advisory Committee on Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs. Previously, he was CEO of FlexGen and the CEO and Co-founder of RSP Technology BV. Fred holds a Bsc and Msc from Erasmus University.

JACQUES LEWINER

Jacques is a prolific physicist, inventor and serial entrepreneur.

He has been Scientific Director at ESPCI for fourteen years and Dean of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Université PSL. He is also the author of over 500 patents and holds the record for the number of patents filed by a single individual in France. In addition, Jacques is the founder of various start-up companies including Inventel, which was sold to the Thomson Group, Cynove, Cytoo, Finsécur, Roowin, Sculpteo, etc., some of them having a spectacular growth.

 

His renowned career has resulted in a large number of awards including the Lifetime Achievement Award (L’Usine Nouvelle), 2010 Engineer of the Year (Grand Prize of the National Council of Engineers and Scientists of France), and his appointment as a Knight of the French Legion of Honor and a member of the French Academy of Technologies. Jacques holds a PhD from the University of Paris.

JEROME BIBETTE

Jérôme is a co-founder of Calyxia.

SERGE RATTON

Serge is an organic chemist with over 45 years of experience in R&D direction and strategy within the chemical industry. 

He is the former Global R&D director of Rhodia, and R&D director of its predecessor, Rhône-Poulenc.

 

He wrote the book ‘The roots of the organic development’ and is the author of over 70 patents and scientific publications. He was awarded the Grand Prize of Research by the French Society of Chemistry and the Society of Industrial Chemistry in 1996. From 2006 onwards, he has been a member of the scientific and strategic advisory boards for many of Europe’s largest and most innovative companies across the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and fine chemical industries. Serge holds a PhD in Industrial Chemistry and Organic Polymers from CNAM, and an Executive Masters in General Management from CEDEP, Paris.
